[:D] "Destiny, Impossibilities and Daffodils"
The sky was clear over Kings Meadow. The breeze was crisp and the vibes were light. Tranquility filled the paddock. And it was that comfortable stillness of the field that suggested the start of a conversation.
He mustered every bit of confidence inside of him and spilled them all out in the form of five words:
"Fair weather today.. you think?" The daffodil didn't actually know what words to begin with.
"huh! How long've you been there?" her answer made the daffodil bat in perplexity.
"I've been here beside you all my life." his reply confused the female daffodil. "Oh, how rude of me. My name's Narcissus."
A moment of awkward silence.. then the answer:
"Narcissus.. If what you say is true.. then, I am very sorry for not knowing of your existence. You should talk once in a while you know.." She was right. Narcissus never really said a word to her before.
"Lose the apologies. I understand." he smiles. "Erin right?"
"Actually, it' s Erika"
"Oh yes, Erika.. say, you've been staring at that Oleander near the foot of our hill for quite a few months now. Care to share..?" twenty-five words. Highscore, he thought.
"Oh that." She felt tongue-tied. "Do you think I'll ever get the chance to get anywhere near him?"
Narcissus didn't see that coming. "I doubt it." She thought so too.
But it was at that very precise moment that a small child, merrily skipping through the meadow, grabbed her by the stem and gently placed her inside an empty basket. She sees a fine-looking Oleander at a distance too, and she just couldn't resist adding it to her find. She felt as if she was fated to do it. As if it was already written somewhere. Perhaps a blog. But no, she just needed something to cheer up her mother when she comes home from work. Her mother loves Oleanders. Very much.
